A Healthier Learning Space: Transforming Facilities for Student Well-being
We took an initiative towards improving the quality of life for students at the Marathi Medium School in Palghar, a town 115 km north of Mumbai. Established in 1935, this school has nurtured prominent figures like Mr. C.D. Deshmukh, India’s exfinance minister. With over 1,100 girls enrolled out of a total of 2,500 students, the condition of the girls’ washroom had become a serious concern. The facility, which had no roof, doors, or proper drainage, was inadequate for providing basic hygiene to the growing girls, ages 6 to 16.
Recognizing the urgency, we initiated a comprehensive renovation. Starting on 15th May 2012, the project has now been completed, featuring a new roof, concealed drainage system, doors for all 30 urinals and 9 toilets, handwashing stations, and ample ventilation. Both natural and artificial lighting ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming environment. This initiative not only addresses sanitation needs but also ensures that the girls can focus on their education in a healthier environment.
